Hello, wanderers! We've got a few updates to share with you this month. The editorial team has finished up with the rulebook and adventure, and Sam is in art mode, finishing off the remaining pieces for the game and artbook!
The Adventure, in PDF Form
Speaking of the adventure, once all was written, we found that it added enough page count to the rulebook to push it over a reasonable cost while maintaining the current prices for backers. Felix and Rob have cooked up something amazing that's perfect for new Wanderers, and we aren't willing to cut it short to fit in the rulebook.
What this means is we'll be publishing the adventure as a PDF for now. Anyone who got the rulebook in any form will receive the adventure PDF as well.
While we'd love to print the adventure, it's not in the cards right now. If it is published in physical form in the future, rest assured backers will be informed.
Rob and Felix at UKGE
If you're headed to UK Games Expo May 29-31, you can say hello to Felix and Rob, writers of the Eternal Ruins game, at Stand 3A-725.
Fill out your surveys!
I'm sure you've received reminder emails from Backerkit, but I'm here to remind you once again to fill out your surveys! Let us know what name you'd like used in the credits of the book, and make sure your shipping address is correct. If you did not receive a survey or you have any issues with it, please contact [email protected].
New Art: Bearer Trail
I'll leave you all with a new beautiful illustration from Sam.
Cheers,

Reminder to fill out your survey!

A very brief update for you today, wanderers!
The Adventure Coalesces
Rob and Felix have hammered out much of the adventure that you unlocked as a stretch goal and are in the final stages of writing it while editorial has a look at the core rules.
The adventure is aimed at newly-awakened wanderers on their first journey across the Eternal Ruins. Intended for around 6-8 hours of play, it will take players across two new regions, the Stone Choir and Kettler’s Dune Rooms, on an urgent quest. It also includes a new relic to discover, a new Great Spirit to befriend, and a fearsome new hazard to face off against.
Fill Out Your Backerkit Surveys
Every backer should have received a Backerkit email with their survey at this point (check your spam folder!). If you have not received your survey, please reach out to [email protected] and we can get you taken care of!
As a reminder, late pledges close on April 30th, and preorders on Backerkit open that day. So if you have a friend who missed out on the campaign but wants to explore the ruins, point them to the preorder!
Deep-Broken and Curse-Broken Origins Art
Sam has been working away at the art and has two new process videos to share!
The Deep-Broken are wanderers who wake alone in the dark, gloomy depths of the ruins.
The Curse-Brokenare those unfortunate wanderers who wake in the presence of a demon and face immediate peril.
That's all from us this time. Happy wandering!

Rules Update! New Art!

Hello, wanderers!
We've got a lot of updates for you today, so let's div3 right in.
In Beta 1.1, we have overhauled the exploration chapter to incorporate feedback from our playtesters. While we haven’t made any drastic changes, we have changed encounters to now be more common (but avoidable if you move cautiously enough), tweaked how some of the exploration positions work, and also changed discoveries and fixed locations to hopefully involve less dice rolling for a smoother play experience.
Cooking also had a slight rework. It was one of the first elements of the Eternal Ruins RPG Felix and I wrote, so we felt it could benefit from a little attention. The rewrite has hopefully added some clarity to how oddments add flavour points to a meal and has also changed how those flavour points are now spent. We’ve also added an example temporary aspect, as might be purchased with those flavour points.
Lastly, we’ve rewritten the demon keeper entry. Cai, our cultural sensitivity consultant, had some feedback on the demon keepers which was very enlightening, and we have incorporated some ideas that Sam has had rattling around in his head about how the bond between demon and keeper works. So, keepers are now much more fleshed out and perhaps a little more morally grey than they were before. It’s almost like we’re getting ready for players to tread the path of a demon keeper…
There is also a list of minor amendments, which you can find in the full change log.
If you have comments or feedback on this update, please fill out the feedback form!
New Art, New Process Videos
Here's Sam with an update on the art:
I’m happy to reveal the artwork for the Shrine-broken, an Origin that will be available in the full version of the game!
The Shrine-broken are wanderers who awoke within or near the shrine of a Great Spirit, beginning their life in the ruins within the safety of its walls. They have the closest thing to a true home you can find in the ruins. I think it’s the perfect Origin for players who want to play as a naive wanderer stepping out into the ruins for the very first time.
I’ve put together a video showing my design process and delving deeper into the lore of the Shrine-broken, so be sure to check it out!
-Sam
If you haven't checked out Sam's FAQ video as well, now is the perfect time!
And Now, a Note on Logistics
I'll wrap this update with a quick timeline update.
Surveys are ready to go - we are wrapping up some back end work with Backerkit and then those will go out. The main question most tiers will have is the name you'd like credited in our Backer Thanks section of the book, along with shipping information and any add-ons you want to order. However, the Wanderer in the Book tier will have several questions about your wanderer, so please keep an eye out on your email inbox next week!
We are right on schedule. Art is moving along, writers are hard at work on the solo rules and adventure, and everything looks good for passing the manuscript to the editorial team this month.
Lastly, a reminder that late pledges close on April 30 and any orders after that need to be placed on Backerkit as a pre-order.
That's all from us! Cheers!

Hello, wanderers!
A brief update from the team, as we're working hard on the stretch goals and remaining content. You'll be hearing from us monthly, barring any urgent news, so check your emails!
Late Pledges Close April 30, Preorder Open
The Backerkit pledge manager will be open soon, so you can add or remove items, change your pledge level, and provide your shipping info. Look for an email with your backer survey in the next week!
Late pledges on Kickstarter will close on April 30th. This means that if you have friends who want to back after that date, they'll need to preorder via Backerkit instead.
If you have any issues with the pledge manager, please reach out to us at [email protected].
Art Reveal: Palemask Foxes
Sam is working his way through the remaining art on the list, and he's putting process videos on the Eternal Ruins Youtube channel. Check out his latest, featuring Palemask Foxes!
The finished piece!
That's all from us for now!
Cheers!

Thank you to everyone who has backed the campaign! I’m incredibly relieved that the project is fully funded, and thrilled that we’ve unlocked so many stretch goals. This level of support means the world to me and ensures we can make the book as complete as possible. I’ve already started working on new art and can't wait to share those previews with you all soon!
- Sam
A Few Logistics from LT
I'll keep it brief this time, folks! Sam, Felix, and Rob are hard at work already on the art and writing of the game, which will be the primary focus for the next few months before things get sent to editors and sensitivity consultants, and then final layout and looks. We are excited to bring the game to life!
We will have the pledge manager open soon, so you'll be able to edit your pledges as necessary. As always, if you have questions or concerns, you can talk to us in the comments or email [email protected].
In the meantime, you can join the Discord if you are interested in hopping into playtest sessions and connecting with other backers and fans.
Sam is going to be posting videos of his process with the art on his YouTube channel, too!
Thank you again. Without you, this project wouldn't be possible.
