Thank you to everyone who has backed the campaign! I’m incredibly relieved that the project is fully funded, and thrilled that we’ve unlocked so many stretch goals. This level of support means the world to me and ensures we can make the book as complete as possible. I’ve already started working on new art and can't wait to share those previews with you all soon!

- Sam

A Few Logistics from LT

I'll keep it brief this time, folks! Sam, Felix, and Rob are hard at work already on the art and writing of the game, which will be the primary focus for the next few months before things get sent to editors and sensitivity consultants, and then final layout and looks. We are excited to bring the game to life!

We will have the pledge manager open soon, so you'll be able to edit your pledges as necessary. As always, if you have questions or concerns, you can talk to us in the comments or email [email protected].

In the meantime, you can join the Discord if you are interested in hopping into playtest sessions and connecting with other backers and fans.

Sam is going to be posting videos of his process with the art on his YouTube channel, too!

Thank you again. Without you, this project wouldn't be possible.

Cheers!

Hello Wanderers!

We are down to the last couple days of the campaign, and you've unlocked a ton of great rewards so far! Our next stretch goal is a custom soundtrack for the Eternal Ruins, composed by Aidan Bell.

He's going to compose 8-9 tracks for the Eternal Ruins based on different aspects of the ruins. 4 minute versions will be available publicly on Spotify, Apple Music, and Soundcloud. Backers will have access to 10 minute extended versions of each track (which will also feature in Sam's videos in the future).

A New Video: Curses in the Eternal Ruins

New Stretch Goals Revealed!
6 months ago – Mon, Feb 09, 2026 at 12:45:41 PM

Here we are, almost halfway through, and we've had to put together some more stretch goals, as you all blew through what we had planned! Thank you so much.

Once we hit that 200K and Tote Bag added to all physical tiers, we have two new stretch goals.

250K: The Soundtrack

At 250K, we will contract Aidan Bell to make 8-9 pieces of music based on different aspects of the ruins. There will be 4 minute versions publicly available on Spotify, Apple Music, and Soundcloud. Backers will have access to 10 minute extended versions of each track (which will also feature in Sam's videos in the future).

300K: Expanded Encounters

At 300K, we'll add a section on expanded encounters to the rulebook. This will be a new spread each for Hazards, Spirits, Demons and Servitors, listing some possible encounters without stats that can be used to flesh out a campaign, as well as some advice on building your own.

Eternal Ruins Actual Play Streaming Tomorrow!

Tune in tomorrow and subsequent Tuesdays on the Happy Jacks Twitch channel to watch an actual play of the Eternal Ruins RPG!

One Week In: Solo Rules and Deluxe Editions
7 months ago – Mon, Feb 02, 2026 at 10:02:44 AM

Hello, wanderers!

We are just under a week into this campaign and blown away by the support from you all. You've recently unlocked Solo Rules and Deluxe Editions - let's get into a little more detail about those things!

An Interview About Solo Gameplay with René-Pier Deshaies and Sam Carr

I (LT) talked with Sam and René-Pier, the author of the solo rules, to discuss the ins and outs of solo play in the Eternal Ruins. You may know René-Pier from his games: Stoneburner, Firelights, Breathless, and Boundless, or any of his many system reference documents, such as the Charge System.

LT: What do you think it is about the Eternal Ruins that draws people to solo play in the setting?

Sam: Solitude has always been a major theme of the Eternal Ruins. While the game focuses on group play, the ruins naturally lends itself to solo play. Without cities or societies, the quietness allows a Wanderer to look inward. Some players might be seeking less of the typical group dynamics and instead be after a more introspective, personal journey through the Eternal Ruins.

René-Pier: I think the inspirations that have shaped the game's world are a great foundation to properly understand the kind of vibe the game is trying to communicate. Worlds filled with truly wondrous details that beg to be discovered but not in a way where you have things that are being explained to you. The way I see it is kind of like if the world was a finished puzzle and over time some of the pieces were broken or went missing and now understanding the full scope of things, its stories, its timeline, etc. is almost impossible. But it still begs to be discovered! I feel like that's kind of like the game's promise. Through it you will discover things about the world, but also about who your character is, together they will fit in the puzzle.

LT: What elements of the game are you most excited to draw on for the solo rules?

René-Pier: An important aspect of solo games is often to think about consequences. Plain success or failures aren't as interesting as partial successes in solo play. The Wild Words engine is going to lend itself very well to this and I'm very excited to use it and tweak it to create a truly satisfying solo engine. That being said, a core mechanical system isn't enough to properly facilitate solo play. You need material to determine what consequences are. What it means, what is its impact or effect. And in a world of silence and ruins, I'm eager to delve more into the lore of the spirits and spirit, demons, servitors as well as the other wanderers. That's because each of those have things they do, that they want, that they claim, and those actions or inactions have as much impact on the ruins as the actions of the player characters.

LT: What does the process of capturing the feel of a group game for solo play look like for you?

René-Pier: It really depends on the perspective of the players playing the game. Sometimes when playing solo you want to act as a party of characters and not be truly "alone" but instead control a group, their relationships throughout the trials of the exploration and adventures. Other times, you want to truly explore those things alone and both aspects provide very different play experiences. I kind of want to explore both ideas and my process to properly communicate the right thematic experience is to look into designing the right play procedures and loop that will guide the players best into experiencing the things they are looking for in this world.

LT: Are there any particular bits of the lore that have your wheels turning for solo prompts and tables?

René-Pier: The fact that demons plague the ruins and that any encounter with them can leave a long lasting presence on a character even long after they are gone is something that I think is very interesting since even after the dangers or the threats are gone, your character may still feel the effects of that encounter and that's something that's going to be very interesting to play with for solo procedures.

LT: Anything else you'd like to share with folks?

René-Pier: This game is truly a special project and I'm both honored and excited to be a part of this journey along with Felix, Rob and Sam. Now, let's design the best possible solo material to do this game justice!

Big thank you to Sam and René-Pier for their time. Let us know in the comments what you are most excited about in the solo rules!

Deluxe Covers for the Artbook and Slipcase

Sam has spent a lot of time concepting designs to match the Deluxe cover of the rulebook. These designs are not final.

The artbook will have gold foil to match the rulebook!

That's it from us for now. Thank you again for all the support. We're excited to keep trekking toward the next goals: another sticker sheet for the artpack and our yet-to-be-revealed goal at 200K!

Cheers,

LT
